Elliotte Friedman recently confirmed that the Florida Panthers are looking to sign their top unrestricted free agent.

In his most recent episode of Sportsnet's Saturday Headlines, Elliotte Friedman reported that the Florida Panthers and Sam Bennett have re-engaged in contract extension talks.
If Bennett were to hit the open market on July 1st, a lot of teams would be interested in acquiring him, as he is set to be one of the most sought after players, but the Panthers are doing whatever it takes to make sure he sticks around with the organization.

Friedman Speaks On Bennett, Panthers Extension Talks

Friedman stated that the Panthers and Bennett have a good marriage between each other, and believes that they will agree on an extension.
Saturday Headlines: Bennett and Panthers re-start talks, we will see:
"There's not a lot of business that generally happens at this point of the year. Things really do calm down, but Sam Bennett, as it stands right now, would be one of the biggest free agents available on July 1 if he gets there," Friedman said. "I don't want to handicap this, but the word in the pressbox Thursday night when Florida played in Toronto was that talks have resumed between Bennett and the Panthers... They are trying, and it's been a very good marriage between player and team."

It's no surprise that the Florida Panthers are trying to lock Bennett up, not only is he one of their stars, but he also provides them offense and a lot of grit, which is what they have kind of based their team around especially after acquiring Brad Marchand at the NHL trade deadline.
Bennett played a massive role in the Florida Panthers winning the Stanley Cup last year, and having him around just makes them a way better team then if they didn't have him on their roster.
This year has been another great year for Bennett, as he sits with 22 goals, 45 points, and 136 hits in 66 games.
Currently Bennett makes $4.425 million, and will be due for a nice pay raise, especially with the cap hit to go up. It will be interesting to see what his new contract looks like.
