A recent announcement revealed that a former Boston Bruins defenseman's career has officially come to an end after he suffering a career ending injury.

It was just announced today that St. Louis Blues defenseman Torey Krug is not expected to play another NHL game after suffering an ankle injury last summer.
General Manager Doug Armstrong told reporters this today whenever he spoke to the media during the team's end-of-season press conference.
«I talked to him, he was at the rink the other day, he's just getting almost normal day-to-day living with his leg, his ankle, so I'm not expecting him to play again,» Armstrong said, per team-provided video. «Now, he's hoping I'm wrong and I'm hoping I'm wrong and he's pushing, but the surgery that he had it was very, very invasive.»

Krug Speaks On The Career Ending Injury

Krug admitted today that he initially suffered this injury in 2018 during the playoffs whenever he was playing with the Boston Bruins organization:
«I fractured my ankle six years ago now in the playoffs when I was with Boston. Over the last few years, it's starting to get worse and worse,» Krug told reporters, per team-provided video. «I've been able to manage it for so long now. Last year was definitely tough, trying to manage the pain level. This summer, I wasn't really able to do the things I needed to do to prepare for the NHL season, a lot of pain and stuff.»

Since the injury first happened, Krug had some bad days, but he also had some good days. He spent six weeks in rehabilitation, but the 33-year-old defenseman determined that having surgery was the only way he was going to be able to address the «pre-arthritic changes» in his ankle.
He played four seasons out of his seven-year $45.5 million contract that he signed with the Blues during free agency in the 2020 off-season, but is not expected to play another game.
The team is more than likely going to keep Krug on long-term injury reserve for the remainder of his contract, and is expected to officially retire in 2027.
St. Louis may end up trading his contract to a team who needs an LTIR cushion to stay above the cap, especially with it expected to increase this off-season.
Krug is going to finish his career with 89 career goals, 394 assists for 483 points in 778 career NHL games split between the Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues.
