The Boston Bruins have kicked off their off-season planning before the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs could even end, with Don Sweeney announcing the organizations first signing on Tuesday, May 6th.

General manager Don Sweeney has addressed the Boston Bruins media, revealing that they have officially locked up a forward.
A key forward to say the least, and a team captain.
The Bruins have announced the signing of depth forward Patrick Brown to a one-year extension that will run for one more season, that holds an NHL salary of $775k.
In their announcement, the Bruins highlighted how important Brown has been to the roster, providing depth in the NHL while mentoring the entire youth movement in Providence.
Brown, 32, has served as team captain and appeared in 56 regular season games with the Providence Bruins this season, recording 17 goals and 29 assists for 46 points. Among Providence skaters, he ranked tied for fourth in goals, tied for second in assists, tied for third in points and first in power play goals (10). The 6-foot-1, 215-pound forward has skated in 501 career AHL games with Providence, Henderson, Chicago and Charlotte, totaling 91 goals and 141 assists for 232 points.

This is a smart signing by Sweeney, which undercuts Brown's former salary by $25,000 less than what he was paid the past preview years ($1.6MM agreement).
Since joining the team in the 2023-24 season, Brown has tallied two assists in 26 games but has shown up when it mattered: when the Bruins' key players endured injuries.
The Providence Bruins won their first playoff round since 2017 recently, with Brown leading them to a win against the Springfield Thunderbirds in the first round of the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs.
Welcome back to Boston, Brown!
