After a season that will likely see him win the Vezina Trophy, Linus Ullmark may have also played his last game with the Boston Bruins.
On His Way Out?
After it ended in disappointment and two consecutive sub-par performances from the goaltender, the rumours are flying that Ullmark will now be on his way out of Boston.
The last two seasons for the Bruins ended eerily similar, and according to Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now, a trusted NHL source revealed that teams could be calling the Bruins about Ullmark, just like last off-season.
As per Murphy:
''Teams called on Ullmark last summer and I can tell you that they at least listened to trade offers on Ullmark because the team I was working for then was one of the teams calling on him,'' the source told Boston Hockey Now on Tuesday morning. ''We figured why not try after he had a shaky playoff series and they had Swayman on the rise with his contract up this offseason. Ullmark is at a doable cap hit for most teams. I could see him moved this offseason.''
Trading a 29-year-old who, in 2022-23, went 40-6-1 with a 1.89 GAA and .938 save percentage seems crazy right?
However, his tandem mate Jeremy Swayman was no slouch either. The much younger goaltender (24) went 24-6-4 with a 2.27 GAA and .920 save percentage this season. Swayman will also be a lot cheaper for the Bruins, as the pending restricted free agent is due only an $876K qualifying offer.
Not to mention the emergence of another 24-year-old in Brandon Bussi, who has risen up the Bruins prospect ranks immensely in 2023.
