An NHL insider revealed the Boston Bruins plans and next steps following their very active participation in the NHL 2024/25 trade deadline.
It is evident to the hockey world how involved the Boston Bruins' GM Don Sweeney was throughout the duration of the trade deadline, and an NHL insider, Anthony Di Marco, has revealed more insight on the logic behind this organization's
moves.
Anthony Di Marco revealed he was informed days leading up to the deadline that there were not many players 'not available for the right price' on the Bruins' roster.
After Boston unloaded 25% of their roster, Di Marco began to realize just how serious Sweeney was about this rebuild and what he had expressed prior to the deadline.
Don Sweeney took advantage of the opportunity to become sellers when they needed it most, as the roster the team held was not contributing to the overall success of the team.
They've capitalized on a seller's market, acquiring prospects such as Max Wagner and
William Zellers, along with a first-round pick, three second-round picks and a fourth-round pick, creating a full restock to their draft and prospect pool.
Anthony Di Marco and his colleague, Matt Larkin, took a deeper dive into the Boston Bruins current situation and realized per Puckpeda, that the Bruins project to have just under $29 million into the 2025 offseason.
But what will the organization do with this cap space?
Di Marco revealed some insight on this matter.
«Since the retirements of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci two summers ago, the Bruins have been swimming upstream in a desperate attempt to fill out the middle of the ice.» stated the NHL insider.
«So are the Bruins not going to be big time players in Free Agency? I can't say for sure one way or another, but I do wonder if they'd take a swing at
Mitch Marner.»
The reporter revealed it may not be rebuilding time in Boston, and they could complete a short-term rebuild to build a lineup evolving around
Charlie McAvoy and
David Pastrnak this summer.
Insider reveals insight on Marchand's return to Boston
»This had nothing to do with turning the page on the player; he is an amazing leader and would still be a Bruin in an ideal world.
But with the Bruins looking to re-jig things (specifically on the wing) this summer, the cap flexibility to reshape their roster took precedence.
A Marchand return to Boston this summer shouldn't be ruled out, as I've been told, but it would have to come at a discount - because I don't foresee the Bruins budging on their internal value of him.»
A Marchand reunion in Boston? The forward has recently
broke his silence on that matter, and with tons more cap space available? This summer is expected to be the busiest working off-season for Don Sweeney in years, buckle up Bruins fans!
