The Colorado Avalanche are pretty tight on cap space, and it could lead to them trading a $35 million defenseman to the Boston Bruins.
Colorado may be looking to clear some cap space before the beginning of the new season, and it could benefit the
Boston Bruins.
A 27-year-old defenseman on the Colorado Avalanche has been in trade speculation over the past couple of years, but it has picked up this off-season.
Heavy.com has proposed a trade that would see the Boston Bruins acquiring this defenseman.
Samuel Girard is the player in question, and this would be an opportunity for the Boston Bruins to acquire a top-4 defenseman for a low price.
Colorado would not be able to retain any salary, meaning the Boston Bruins would be able to get him pretty cheap.
Here's a look at what this trade proposal could look like:
Bruins get:
Samuel Girard, D
2026 fifth-round pick
Avalanche get:
2026 fourth-round pick
2027 second-round pick
The Boston Bruins have two fourth-round picks in the 2026 NHL draft, one being their own, and one being Tampa Bay Lightning's, but the Avalanche may prefer the Bruins own pick.
Moving the 2027 second round pick could be a gamble, if the Boston Bruins end up having a bounce back year it could be closer to a third-round pick.
But if the Boston Bruins have another disappointing season, it could be closer to a late first-round pick.
Right now, the Bruins have some question marks on the blue line, both Lindholm and McAvoy are coming off of injuries, but are expected to be fully healthy before training camp begins.
But that's not a guarantee.
Acquiring Girard would give them some breathing room on their blue line.
