According to Evan Cormier of Heavy.com, the Boston Bruins may have a contract in place to steal Bennett from the Panthers.
Bennett signing with the Boston Bruins?
There are reports suggesting that Sam Bennett could be north of $8 million on his next contract, and the Bruins have the cap space to make a move on him.
«The Boston Bruins could be looking to make a splash this offseason after a rough campaign in 2024-25 that saw them miss the playoffs for the first time since 2017,» SI's Karl Rasmussen writes. «With a need in the center of the ice, Bennett could be their best option to pursue.»
After trading away Brad Marchand at the NHL trade deadline, Bennett is the exact same player, younger and could be a good replacement for the former Bruins captain.
Other then Mitch Marner, Bennett is going to be the most sought after free agent this year when free agency comes around.
The only difference is that Bennett's contract is going to be a lot smaller, and he knows what it takes to win the Stanley Cup unlike Marner.
«Bennett is right in his prime at 29 years old, but he'd provide Boston with some additional physicality on the offensive end, as well as another experienced goal scoring threat,» Rasmussen concludes.
«The 11-year veteran has scored 20 or more goals in three of the last four years, and his 25 goals last season would have ranked third on the Bruins behind only David Pastrnak and Morgan Geekie.»
With Don Sweeney stating he wants to bring the Boston Bruins back to being a competitive team, he has to be all in on Sam Bennett if he hits the free agent market.
