A major development in the Boston Bruins announcing their head coach: could it be Rick Tocchet? A trusted NHL inside source just revealed the steep price tag to acquire the star head coach.
The Boston Bruins' head coach search continues to intensify as the days go on, and more coaches are claimed by opposing teams.
Time is running out for Don Sweeney, and he must act fast.
But how much of a price tag will the longtime NHL veteran and head coach, Rick Tocchet, seek in his job search?
It may be too steep for Don Sweeney's pockets, as we recently found out were quite shallow due to his non-budging offer to
Brad Marchand, which ultimately lead to his departure from the organization.
A report from Jimmy Murphy of
Boston Hockey revealed that Tocchet is the highest on their list, but a new development from insider Frank Seravalli echoes the pricing Don Sweeney must pay to acquire an elite-head coach.
Seravalli revealed that he will have 'multiple mega offers' that will change the pay scale of the coaching landscape in the NHL.
The insider notes that he's been interviewed in Seattle, Philadelphia, and that the Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins are asking for an interview as well.
Seravalli then stated he expects Tocchet to ink a five year deal, worth north of $6 million per season.
To put things in perspective:
Jim Montgomery signed a three-year, $6 million dollar deal with the Boston Bruins years ago, equalling a two-million average.
If the Bruins want to acquire the hottest coach on the market, Rick Tocchet, they will need to fork over three-time as much of a salary per season.
