After a handful of mediocre seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, Oliver Ekman-Larsson will now get a change of scenery.
The Canucks had tried to trade him at the deadline to offload his bloated contract, but with no takers, they had to eat $19.3M this past week in a buyout. Now that the team has bought him out, interest may peak in him now that his contract isn't playing a huge role.
OEL registered his worst point total of 22 points with his lowest time on ice at 20:11 since his rookie season 13 years ago.
Now that OEL is comfortable with his money situation — earning nearly $2.5M annually thanks to the buyout. It shouldn't cost a lot for a team to acquire him.
With that being said, what teams may be interested in the 31-year-old defenseman?
Daily Faceoff's Matt Larkin mentioned eight teams that might be looking into EOL:
Boston Bruins
Carolina Hurricanes
Detroit Red Wings
Florida Panthers
NY Islanders
Seattle Kraken
Tampa Bay Lightning
Vegas Golden Knights
Many of these teams have a solid top-four already, so EOL wouldn't have much pressure on him. In fact, the Golden Knights and Hurricanes would be nice landing spots for him. The Lightning and Bruins are two teams that know how to rehabilitate players, and Detroit appears to be involved in a lot of players this summer.
