The Boston Bruins may be forced to trade all-star David Pastrnak if he does not want to sign an extension for his contract that expires at the end of the 2022-23 season.
If they were to decide to trade the winger, here are some potential destinations and packages they could ask for in return.
The Kings are near the end of their rebuild and have plenty of draft picks and prospects to offer. With the acquisition of
Kevin Fiala, the Kings might be going all in.
The Bruins would have to start by asking for LA's first and second-round draft pick in 2023. Then, prospects that would interest them could be
Quinton Byfield, Lias Andersson,
Alex Turcotte or
Brandt Clarke.
Another young team that has a plethora of talented prospects.
The Ducks are heading into this offseason with just under $40 million of cap space, so they can easily afford Pastrnak. Don Sweeney shouldn't accept anything less than a package involving something like
Mason McTavish, Maxime Comtois and
Jamie Drysdale.
The Jets are a team in the same position as the Bruins. Established players who may need a change of scenery.
Boston could add
Matthew Grzelcyk with Pastrnak to help relieve an overcrowded left side and shed some extra cap. In return for the two players, the Bruins could ask for prospect
Cole Perfetti,
Pierre-Luc Dubois, and Winnipeg's 2023 first-round pick.
Dubois has made it clear he doesn't want to stay in Winnipeg.
Another option is centre Mark Scheiffele who reportedly asked for a trade and would be a perfect fit on a Bruins team that needs one, maybe two, top-six centres next season.
It has been reported that the Devils are open to moving their 2022 second-overall pick for the right price, which would be a massive starting point if the Bruins were to start a rebuild.
Yegor Sharangovich and
Jesper Bratt could both be strong fits in Boston's top-six for NHL-ready players.
