Latvian Dans Locmelis was selected in the fourth round (119th overall) by the Boston Bruins at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, and due to a lack of exposure, experts are wondering if the Bs have found somewhat of a steal.
Last season with Lulea HF Jr. of the Swedish J20 SuperElit league, Locmelis recorded 18 goals and 16 assists in 44 games. The 18-year-old followed that up with 1 goal and 1 assist at the World Juniors, helping Latvia make history with its first-ever preliminary round win.
Earlier reports were that Locmelis would be moving to the NCAA before turning pro, with others stating the USHL was his destination. Now, Mark Divver of The New England Journal has reported the B's prospect will likely be moving close to Boston:
''Whispers getting louder that likely NCAA destination for '04 F Dans Locmelis will be UMass. Bruins fourth rounder played for Latvia in WJC''
