Completed trade between the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers
The Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers have completed a trade ahead of the start of free agency today.
According to Puck Empire, the Boston Bruins have traded for Edmonton Oilers forward
Viktor Arvidsson:
The Oilers are trading Viktor Arvidsson to the Boston Bruins, per
@irfgaffar.
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period revealed that Arvidsson has waived his NTC to accept a trade to the Boston Bruins.
Viktor Arvidsson has waived his NTC and accepted a trade to Boston, as
@irfgaffar was first to report. Edmonton frees up extra cap space.
It was reported earlier in the day that a trade with Arvidsson was going to happen, and now it's been official.
It's not clear what the return is going back to the Oilers.
If no money is retained by the Edmonton Oilers, this is a very weird trade for the Boston Bruins.
Entering free agency, they had $12 million in cap space. Arvidsson has a $4 million cap hit while being 32 years old.
There goes that idea of the #NHLBruins spending wisely!
$4M cap hit for a small, 32-year-old forward in decline.
Last year,
Arvidsson only scored 15 goals, 12 assists for 27 points.
At this moment, this trade doesn't make any sense by Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney.
