A large announcement made moments ago has confirmed that the Boston Bruins are starting off free agency with a bang.

Bruins General manager Don Sweeney has had several crucial decisions to make over the past several weeks since being eliminated from playoff contention in the NHL regular season, and the biggest one has already been done.
The Bruins and GM Don Sweeney decided to fire Joe Sacco and named Marco Sturm their newest head coach, and now face cutting ties with several players.
A first decision was made to cut ties with Jakub Lauko in a surprising manner, which then led to a much bigger move on their restricted free agents.
Now, several other faces, including Ian Mitchell, have hit an official rock bottom.
"Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced today, June 30, that the following players have not received qualifying offers from the team: Drew Bavaro, Trevor Kuntar, Jakub Lauko, Daniil Misyul, Ian Mitchell, Jaxon Nelson, Oliver Wahlstrom."

The Boston Bruins are surely not done though, as they are buckling up for a large free agent frenzy kicking off on Tuesday July 1st, including big names on the open market.
There are several names that they are linked to:
Nikolaj Ehlers
Brock Boeser
Pius Suter
Or what about a potential reunion with defenseman Dmitry Orlov in free agency?
With multiple roster spots now opened, in the NHL and AHL (Providence Bruins), an extra layer of anticipation is now added onto Don Sweeney's shoulder on the open market.
