The Boston Bruins recalled Fabian Lysell on an emergency basis on March 18th, could he remain with the club for the rest of the season?
He's played two games with the team since his recall and has seen significant ice time against the Columbus Blue Jackets and San Jose Sharks.
While he hasn't found the back of the net yet, it should be coming soon if you look at his stat line, he's on a line that is driving offense.
Now if you're not a stat-nerd, these words are meaningless, but to give you a basic definition of the first two lines.
Corsi For Percentage (CF%): The total of Corsi For shot attempts divided by the total of Corsi For shot attempts and Corsi Against shot attempts. A player percentage over 50% indicates his team is generating more shot attempts than the opposition when the player is on the ice.
It gives you an idea that
Lysell and the third line are firing on all cylinders, as they haven't put a goal in the net yet, but they are doing their job on the forecheck by creating chances and shots on goal.
Expected Goals For (xGF): A statistic that weighs a shot attempt or scoring chance with the likelihood of a goal being scored. The stat correlates a specific shot attempt location with conversion rates based on historical data from that specific shot location.
Lysell has scored 34 points (11 G, 23 A) in 51 games with the Providence Bruins this season.
It'll be interesting to see how his game translates at the NHL level, and this is a good sign he could find a new home with the spoked-B.
It seems like a bit of short-sightedness that Don Sweeney relied on depth trades that tapped into the potential in Providence early in the season.
