A major development has surfaced in Boston Bruins' former captain, Brad Marchand, and it's shocking.

Following Marchand's departure from Boston, the 37-year old has become a key piece in his new organization, the Florida Panthers, and has played a huge factor within their postseason run.
Yet, Marchand's long-term future within this organization is in question, due to the fact he is set to enter unrestricted free agency on July 1, the date he will complete his eight-year, $49M contact that he signed with the Boston Bruins in 2016.
According to NHL insider, Chris Johnston, the veteran is expected to test free agency this summer, and he'll be aiming for a multi-year deal.
«I think he's going to have a lot of bidders that are willing to do that,» Johnston stated on Monday's episode of «The Chris Johnston Show», «I'm not saying his time in Florida is definitely up.»

The Florida Panthers acquired Marchand from the Boston Bruins during the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, and although this forward is already 37 and approaching the end of his professional career, the winger has accumulated 18 points within 20 playoff games through Game3 of the Stanley Cup Finals Meanwhile
However, despite that production, Johnston noted that Florida may focus on re-signing younger players within the organization's roster.
«I think it's not likely they keep Marchand,» Johnston said. «But the door isn't closed.
«It's not like he doesn't love it there. It just really is going to come down to just, unfortunately, cold, hard business.»
Johnston continued to reveal that Marchand intends to play for a few years and expects a strong offer:
«He's at a stage where he's looking to make pretty good money,» Johnston said. «And I think the market is going to have it out there for him, probably on guaranteed contracts that are lasting three years or four years.»
Additionally, a social media reporting account, puckempire, has unveiled that whilst Brad Marchand is expected to hit the open market, a bidding war for this key-forward is anticipated.
