An NHL insider has unveiled what it would cost the Boston Bruins organization to re-acquire their former veteran captain, Brad Marchand, this offseason, and it's surprising.
The Boston Bruins fan-base and organization were forced to say goodbye to their fan-favourited 16-year veteran, Brad Marchand, this past NHL Trade Deadline, when the forward was dealt to the Florida Panthers in a last-minute blockbuster trade.
There was speculations that this trade erupted due to the Boston Bruins' general manager, Don Sweeney, and the front office refusing to negotiate a deal, as Marchand was seeking a higher salary.
However, with free agency right around the corner, new insight has unfolded, and Marchand has been speculated to sign for big money.
This insight unveils just how much it would cost the Bruins organization to re-acquire their long-time captain.
Brad Marchand's previous contract
During Brad Marchand's last deal, he had a cap hit of $6.125M AAV for the past eight years of his NHL career, and he is in the final year of his contract.
Now with his contract expiring, the forward is 37-years old, yet, his production is still solid despite a drop-off this 2024/25 NHL season, partly because the Boston Bruins struggled immensely.
This being said, his contract is expected to look a little different next season, however, according to Chris Johnston, Marchand will likely have some teams willing to offer him big money this free agency.
