After coming back from the 4 Nations Faceoff tournament in February, it was clear that the Boston Bruins were not going to be a playoff team.
Because of this, Don Sweeney and the Bruins front office had a big decision to make: be sellers or buyers.
It wasn't clear what way they were going to go, but once the deadline approached, it was pretty clear that they were going to be sellers.
The day before the
NHL trade deadline, Sweeney started to trade players and it became evident that the Bruins were going to be sellers.
On March 7th, things ramped up for the Bruins whenever some big named players were traded like
Brad Marchand,
Brandon Carlo and Charlie Coyle.
But Sweeney did a good job in getting really good returns back for these players.
According to one player that was traded at the deadline, he saw it coming.
Coyle saw the trade coming from the Bruins
Although the Bruins weren't eliminated from the playoffs, their play was heading in the wrong direction and it was clear that they wouldn't be a contending team.
«The writing was on the wall,» Coyle said to the Boston Globe. «We just weren't playing that well and time was running out.»
Don Sweeney had a tough decision to make, but in the end, he made the right choice as the Boston Bruins badly needed a reset.
This off-season has not been the most promising, but hopefully Sweeney can make some moves to improve the roster before the beginning of the season.
