Entering the off-season Don Sweeney and the Boston Bruins wanted to get better after having a terrible 2024-25 season.

There were a bunch of rumors that former Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand may return to the organization, which definitely would have helped.
Ultimately, Marchand ended up re-signing with the Florida Panthers, and there weren't too many big named players the Bruins could have went after.
So instead, Don Sweeney ended up signing a bunch of bottom-six/depth players to small contracts.
One of those players happened to be a former player for the Bruins, and now he just ended up trading jerseys with a current Boston Bruin.
