An NHL insider recently issued a statement on the Edmonton Oilers missing a golden opportunity to acquire a Boston Bruins goaltender.

Things could have went completely upside down for the Boston Bruins during the 2024-25 season if the Edmonton Oilers made a big swing.
All the Edmonton Oilers had to do was pick up the phone, and call Don Sweeney, and a massive trade would have happened.
Edmonton ended up losing the first time to the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and it became evident that the Oilers were missing a top goaltender to get over this hump.
At that time, Sweeney was looking to move on from one of his goaltenders in Jeremy Swayman, or Linus Ullmark.
Ultimately, the Boston Bruins ended up trading Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators in return for Joonas Korpisalo, Mark Kastelic, and a first-round draft pick.
Now, a former NHL GM, and now NHL insider believes that the Oilers missed a golden opportunity to fill their void in net.
Instead of trading Ullmark to the Senators, a divisional rival, the Boston Bruins probably would have preferred to send him to a different division.
Pierre McGuire believes that the Edmonton Oilers missed out on a opportunity to solidify their goaltending position.
"I'm just wondering if they didn't miss out on the potential of hitting a home run deal with Boston to solidify their goaltending position,'' said McGuire. "(The situation) was volatile beyond belief.''

It's still clear to everyone that the Edmonton Oilers need a goaltender to make the jump, and Connor McDavid's future in the organization relies on them acquiring one.
