Must See: Ex-Boston Bruins Linus Ullmark Robs Mason Lohrei With Highlight Reel Save
Ottawa Senators fans were bowing down to former Boston Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark last night after he put in his candidate for save-of-the-year against the Boston Bruins.
The Ottawa Senators were up 5-3 on the Boston Bruns in the second period when Linus Ullmark made an insane
diving catch to rob former teammate
Mason Lohrei of a wide open net.
He continued this play into the third period to help the Senators win their fifth straight game as they continue to fight for a playoff spot this year.
«Oh my God, he's such a stud,» Senators defenseman
Tyler Kleven told reporters after the 6-3 win.
Ottawa finished the first period up 4-1, and the Bruins responded in the second by scoring two goals of their own, and Ullmark allowed three goals on just 14 shots giving him a .786 SV% up until that point.
Linus Ullmark's Highlight-Reel Save
The Bruins controlled possession in the offensive zone with about 1:30 remaining in the second period.
Marat Khusnutdinov and
Andrew Peeke passed the puck back and forth, before finding Mason Lohrei open on the far side with a wide open net.
Lohrei had a clear one-timer towards an empty cage but Linus Ullmark made a highlight-reel diving save to keep the Senators ahead by two goals.
After the game, Linus Ullmark had this to save about the save:
«I was laughing,» Ullmark told the media post-game, as reported by Graeme Nichols. «Sometimes I wonder, how did that happen?»
After that save, Linus Ullmark would not allow anything else to go in, and the Senators sealed the deal by scoring an empty net goal, beating the Bruins 6-3.
«He's such a big part of this team, and he wins us a lot of games,» Kleven said. «I'm honestly not even surprised that that happened - I see it all the time. He's an awesome guy off the ice and an even better teammate on the ice.»
With the win, the Ottawa Senators are now five points ahead of the second wildcard spot team and if they continue to play like this, they will secure their spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs this year.
