The hockey community was once again hit with some tragic news this morning as an announcement confirmed that a former Buffalo Sabres member, and Calder Cup Champion has unfortunately passed away at 61-years-old.
During the 1980's Claude Verret was a intriguing name in Quebec, but today, the hockey community is mourning his passing after he had a stellar career that took him all around the world for a long time.
During the 1980's, hockey saw a lot of junior players thriving, not just in North America, but all over the place, and Claude Verret was one of those players.
He was drafted to the NHL during the 1982
NHL Entry Draft in the 8th round with the 163rd overall pick by the Buffalo Sabres.
Verret entered the NHL coming off of three massive years with the Trois-Rivieres Draveurs where he posted 112, 162, and 188 points.
He wouldn't play many games in the NHL, as he saw just 14 games with the Buffalo Sabres, but did thrive in the American Hockey League with the Rochester Americans, becoming a top star in the league.
Verret would then go overseas to play in France and Switzerland, and went on to be a part of three straight Continental Cup wins while on loan.
Unfortunately at 61-years-old, it has been announced that Verret has passed away, and the Quebec and Buffalo regions are taking this loss hard.
Verret was a special player to the hockey community, and everyone here at Bruins Insider are sending our thoughts and prayers to his friends, family, and former teammates.
