The Boston Bruins organization is currently searching for a head coach entering the 2025-26 season, and NHL insider Elliotte Friedman just revealed a new top candidate for the Bruins vacant job.
After the 2024-25 season came to an end, the Boston Bruins revealed that they are searching for a new head coach. Sweeney did state that Joe Sacco will be an option, but they are also looking elsewhere to see.
The Pittsburgh Penguins ended up firing head coach Mike Sullivan, and there was a lot of speculation the Bruins would be really interested in him, but recent reports have suggested that his top pick is going to be the New York Rangers.
Recently, another head coach has become available in the market, and Elliotte Friedman has confirmed it.

Elliotte Friedman confirmed that Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet will not be returning, and he could be a top candidate for the Boston Bruins position.
The Vancouver Canucks announced today that Rick Tocchet has decided not to return as Head Coach for the upcoming season.
After thoughtful discussions with the team and management, Tocchet has opted to step away from his role, concluding his tenure with the Canucks.

«After a very long and thorough process, unfortunately Rick has decided to leave the Vancouver Canucks,» said Rutherford. «This is very disappointing news, but we respect Rick's decision to move to a new chapter in his hockey career. We did everything in our power to keep him, but at the end of the day Rick felt he needed a change. He is a good friend, a good coach, and we can't thank him enough for all he did for our organization. Toc is a stand-up guy, and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward.»
The Bruins have multiple options to choose from, and it'll be interesting to see who they actually decide to hire.
