Two Boston Bruins were named on the ten biggest disappointments list of the NHL this season by The Athletic, they were Jeremy Swayman and Elias Lindholm.

What's troubling about the list is that the Bruins have two key players named on this list. Jeremy Swayman and Elias Lindholm do not look like the elite players we've seen them play as in prior seasons.
Lindholm signed an expensive $54.25 million deal with the B's keeping him in Black and Gold for the foreseeable future.
He was supposed to be the team's 1C to feed David Pastrnak and create offensive on what should've been an elite 1st-line.
Now he resides on the third-line behind Casey Mittelstadt.
"All signs pointed to Lindholm being a shutdown middle-six center at this stage in his career. Boston, however, rolled the dice on him being a true No. 1 center," Dayal wrote. "That gamble has been a disaster."
While Jeremy Swayman missed training camp, and held out until his new contract offer matched what he thought was a reasonable payday.
Now, he no longer plays like the Bruins starting goalie but is even making Joonas Korpisalo look good.
Since he signed his eight-year $66 million deal, he's slipped into a .897 save percentage while his GAA is 3.00.
"That deal made him the league's fifth highest-paid goaltender this season," Dayal wrote. "Swayman's save percentage has consistently been in the .914 to .920 range in his NHL career, but he's slipped to .897 in 2024-25.

"Goalies are notoriously volatile, and there are enough contextual factors to hope Swayman will bounce back with a clean slate next season. However, it won't be easy."

The Bruins will look to bounce back after their disappointing 3-2 overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres. The team is 30-30-9 with 69 points and needs 2 points in regulation to gain footing and a potential spot in the Eastern Conference wild-card standings.

Could a Trade Be Incoming?

If the Boston Bruins do want to get back into a competitive state, they might have to try and move on from Jeremy Swayman, and Elias Lindholm.
It's still early, and they could have a better year next year, but that could also be a gamble. Trading them for players that have proven themselves could be an option the Bruins look to explore in the off-season.
