The Toronto Maple Leafs could reportedly explore acquiring one of two centers via a trade, which includes a key trade chip by the Boston Bruins.

General manager Brad Treliving has openly revealed he's willing to add reinforcements to the Maple Leafs' already jam-packed core, and Don Sweeney could easily take advantage of that, while reuniting a familiar face with Brandon Carlo in Toronto, who was traded this past March 7 NHL trade deadline.
The Athletic's Chris Johnston has revealed Pavel Zacha of the Bruins and Bo Horvat of the New York Islanders as ideal trade targets for the Leafs:
"Maybe some veteran forwards become available, whether it's Pavel Zacha in Boston or Bo Horvat with the Islanders," Johnston said on Monday's episode of The Leaf Report podcast. "They're players that could satisfy the needs in places like Montreal, Vancouver, maybe even Toronto."

Somehow, the Leafs roster is still not fulfilled, per Brad Treliving, despite several acquisitions this summer of Nicolas Roy, Matias Maccelli, Dakota Joshua, and Michael Pezzetta, just to name a few.
Both Zacha and Horvat could instantly improve the Leafs roster, but at what cost?

Leafs working with tight cap hit to be exploring Pavel Zacha

"Both players cited would be excellent additions to Toronto's depth. Zacha, 28, is entering the third year of a four-year deal with the Bruins with a $4.7 million cap hit. Horvat, 30, is entering the third year of an eight-year contract with the Islanders, with an $8.5 million cap hit.

Toronto currently has only $1.9 million in cap space, complicating the absorption of either salary. While Zacha's is more manageable, it still exceeds the available space."

With GM Don Sweeney and Brad Treliving being familiar trade partners in the past, don't be surprised to see a deal come to fruition in the next few weeks.
