After losing games one and two to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Brad Marchand had a shocking compliment for the team.
Instead of retaliating, the Toronto Maple Leafs thought the best way to get revenge for goaltender
Anthony Stolarz in game two was to beat the Florida Panthers and take a 2-0 series lead.
According to NHL insider Chris Jonston, this is the first time since 1963 that the Toronto Maple Leafs have held a 2-0 series lead in two different playoff series during one postseason.
This is also the first time that the Maple Leafs have won the first two games in a series after the opening round since 1987.
Brad Marchand is familiar with the Toronto Maple Leafs after his long career with the Boston Bruins organization. Last year the Boston Bruins ended up knocking out the Leafs in 7 games, but they seem different this year.
Speaking with Brad Marchand following the game last night, Marchand had a surprising compliment for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Not only did he have a compliment, but he also took a slight shot at them at the same time:
«They came ready to play this round. We see that.»
Marchand and the Florida Panthers know that the Leafs have not been able to reach the Eastern Conference Finals or Stanley Cup Finals in decades.
Marchand is trying to play some mind games before the series heads back to Florida for game 3.
The Panthers are not in an ideal situation right now, being down 2-0, but they are heading back home, and if they can win both of those games they will be in a good position.
If not, their season will be on the edge of coming to an end early.
