The official full-story covered by Rick Westhead, TSN's Senior Correspondent:
"A woman who alleged she was sexually assaulted by eight Canadian Hockey League players, including members of Canada's gold medal-winning 2017-18 World Junior team, has agreed to drop a lawsuit against the players, Hockey Canada, and the CHL after reaching a settlement."
"The woman, whose allegations are detailed in court records filed in Ontario Superior Court in London, Ont., on Apr. 20, claimed she was repeatedly assaulted while intoxicated in a hotel room following a Hockey Canada Foundation gala and golf event in the city in June of 2018."
SOURCE: TSN Hockey (@TSNHockey) and Rick Westhead (@rwesthead) on Twitter.
According to the lawsuit, the alleged assaults took place in the early morning of June 19th, 2018, during a two-day Hockey Canada event in London, Ontario, where the 2017-18 World Junior team was honoured for winning gold by beating Sweden 3-1 on January 5th in Buffalo, New York.
The eight players are unnamed and anonymous, but here is a list of the Team Canada roster from that year's World Juniors.
There are many names on that roster that are now big pieces of NHL teams, including
Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche, Carter Hart of the Philadelphia Flyers,
Drake Batherson of the Ottawa Senators, Maxime Comtois and
Sam Steel of the Anaheim Ducks, Dillon Dube of the Calgary Flames, and
Jordan Kyrou and
Robert Thomas of the St. Louis Blues.
Of course, the players involved were not revealed, and I am not suggesting any of these guys were involved, but there's no way the whole team or most of the team didn't know about the incident.
Another gross representation of "hockey culture" that needs to change.
