Heading into the 2025-26 season, the Boston Bruins have a bunch of pending free agents, and there is a chance that some of them are on the hot seat, and might not be coming back.

There is a chance that they could get a contract though, but it could very well depend on how they perform next season.

Matt Poitras may be on the hot seat

There is already some speculation that the Boston Bruins could end up trading Matt Poitras.
If the Boston Bruins were to sign him to a contract extension, there is a good chance that they could wait and see how he performs next year before handing out a new deal.
With him coming off of his entry-level contract, Poitras is set to be a restricted free agent (RFA), meaning he wouldn't be able to walk in free agency.
Poitras is considered one of the Boston Bruins top prospects in their pool right now, but with how crowded their roster is, it has sparked some trade speculation.
He spent most of last season with the Providence Bruins in the AHL, scoring 17 goals, 41 points in 40 games, but if there is no room for him on the NHL roster, it wouldn't be a terrible idea to move on from him.
Poitras would be able to get the Boston Bruins a solid player in return, and could end up helping them speed up their retool.
Obviously to acquire a top-six player it would probably take more then just Matt Poitras, but he would be able to fetch a solid return.
He has not taken the next step yet in becoming a full-time NHL player for the Bruins, but if given a shot he could change that heading into the next season.
If this is the case, he could earn himself a nice contract before becoming a RFA.
