Bruce Cassidy is looking to keep writing history nearing the end of the 2021-22 NHL season.
Cassidy has been with the Boston Bruins since the 2016-17 season. He started as an assistant coach after being promoted from the Providence Bruins. Cassidy took over as head coach of Boston on February 7th, 2017, after Claude Julien was fired.
Cassidy has done nothing but win since he became the head coach of the Bruins.
Boston needs just two points in their final two games for Bruce Cassidy to register a .650 or higher points percentage on the season, making that mark for each of his first six seasons as Bruins head coach. He would break his own NHL record of five seasons for most consecutive .650+ winning percentage seasons to start a tenure with a team.
Here's a list of most consecutive .650+ points percentage seasons by a coach to start tenure with a team in NHL history:
1. Bruce Cassidy - BOS, 5*
2. Bruce Boudreau - WSH, 4
Mike Babcock - DET, 4
*becomes six if the Bruins get two or more points in their two remaining games this season.
Bruce Cassidy's points percentage by season with Boston:
2016-17: .685
2017-18: .683
2018-19: .652
2019-20: .714 *Jack Adams Award*
2020-21: .652
2021-22: .656
