The Boston Bruins will host the NHL Winter Classic for the second time at Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox. On Wednesday, the news broke that they would be hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins on January 2nd, 2023.
One Bruins star wasn't able to suit up the last time the club hosted the Philadelphia Flyers back on January 1st, 2010.
Brad Marchand was still in his rookie season and the AHL from November to March, playing just 20 NHL games in the 2009-10 season.
Fan favourite Marchand, who was interviewed by Liam McHugh of NHL on TNT, commented on getting a second chance at playing outdoors at the famous Fenway Park:
"These games are always so much fun, always so exciting, just the memories you take away from them are incredible"
He recalled how loyal former Bruins players are to the team and the city of Boston, hoping he would be one of those legends one day:
"You look at a lot of guys that have played and had great careers in Boston, they're still kicking around, and people love seeing them around town"
Marchand reflected on one of his favourite moments as a professional athlete in the city of Boston:
"The year we won [the Stanley Cup], we went down into the [Red Sox] room, and that was really special."
