The Edmonton Oilers staved off a tremendous effort from a young Los Angeles Kings team to advance to the second round after a hard-fought seven-game series.
Oilers captain
Connor McDavid made sure his team wasn't getting bounced in the first round again this year. After devastating four-game losses to the Chicago Blackhawks and Winnipeg Jets in the last two seasons. He helped his team defeat the Kings in seven games to advance to the second round for the first time since 2017.
Check out his insane stats from the series:
- 4 goals
- 10 assists
- 27 shots on goal
- Plus-10
- 21 hits
- 9 takeaways
- On ice for 20 of Oilers' 26 goals
The offensive phenom was also throwing his weight around all series long:
Edmonton was down 3-2, and on the brink of elimination after game five of the series, then McDavid took over. The superstar had 2 goals, 3 assists and 12 shots in games six and seven while averaging around 25 minutes of ice time per game.
He had a monster game seven last night in a 2-0 win to help the Oilers advance. He assisted on
Cody Ceci's opening goal halfway through the second period and capped it off by sealing the deal with under four minutes to play in the game.
