Former Boston Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk has found his way back to the NHL after his playing days.
Andrew Gross of Newsday has reported that the New York Islanders have hired 38-year-old Boychuk in a player development role. As per Gross:
''Johnny Boychuk is officially back with #Isles. He's been hired in a player development role. He's been on the ice this week as a part of the coaching staff for development camp.''
According to Gross, Boychuj has been skating as part of the coaching staff for the Islanders development camp this past week. The Edmonton, Alberta native spent 13 seasons in the NHL until he suffered a career-ending eye injury.
He appeared in 725 games throughout his career, split almost entirely between the Boston Bruins and Islanders, and recorded 54 goals and 152 assists. Boychuk was a key piece to the Bruins' blueline when they won the 2011 Stanley Cup.
