Key player done for the season in Philly
Things have gone from bad to worse for the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday, as the team announced that they would be shutting down forward Sean Couturier for the remainder of the season.
Couturier is a heart and soul player for the Flyers, but he has been on the IR since late December with a back injury, which ultimately required surgery to repair. Couturier underwent that procedure this morning and, as a result, he will not play again this season.
The 29-year-old pivot is a former Selke Trophy winner, so to say that the Flyers are going to miss this guy in the lineup is an understatement. Though he has only managed 17 points in 29 games this season, much of his struggles could be blamed on the overall struggles of the entire team.
Couturier was labelled an untouchable by Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher last month, so he'll be back with the club next season, which will hopefully end up being one where the team can turn things around and carve out a path back to glory.
