On this day in 2018, NHL and Boston Bruins legend Willie O'Ree finally got the call that he was being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
As it's well-known, O'Ree is a trailblazer as being the first black player to play in the NHL, breaking the colour barrier.
O'Ree managed to keep it secret, and made his NHL debut with the Bruins on January 18, 1958, against the Montreal Canadiens.
Willie appeared in 45 NHL games and collected 4 goals and 10 assists. He was inducted into the HHOF in November 2018 and his jersey number was retired by the Bruins on January 18th 2022.
