It was on March 15, 1970 that Orr set the unprecedented milestone.
On that day, the legendary Bruins defenseman became the first defenseman to reach 100 points in NHL history. Since then, only 13 seasons have featured blueliners with triple digits in points.
Bobby Orr is the leader in that category, with
six 100-point campaigns to his name, followed closely by Hall of Famer Paul Coffey's five.
The last defenseman to reach the century mark in points was Brian Leetch, who did it with the New York Rangers back in 1991-92, with a 102-point season.
Fast-forward to today, exactly thirty years later, and the NHL might see another defenseman add his name to the 100-point club.
That's right, Nashville Predators captain
Roman Josi currently has a total of 87 points this season. With 11 games remaining in the regular season, the Preds captain is just 13 points shy of the career milestone.
At his current pace, he's projected to end the regular season with 98 points, but who knows what a little late-season magic combined with some help from his teammates can lead to.
Only time will tell if Josi can match what Bobby did... six times!
