The Boston Bruins are far and away the number one team in the NHL this season with an incredible 49-9-5 record with just 19 games remaining.
However, the most recent 3-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers was very, very rare occurrence for the league's most consistently dominant team.
Coming into Thursday night's matchup, the Bruins basically didn't lose when they scored first, in regulation anyways. Check it out:
30-0-3 when scoring first.
28-0-1 when leading after the first.
35-0-2 when leading after the second.
The Bruins led 2-0 after one and 2-1 after two periods last night, but the Oilers ended the impressive streak by scoring two unanswered goals to win in regulation.
According to Sportsnet's Jack Michaels, the last team to do that Boston, was Edmonton. As per Michaels:
''The last time the Bruins lost in regulation when leading after two periods came on Nov. 11, 2021, on home ice in Boston, against Edmonton.''
The Bruins are back in action this weekend with a home-and-home on Saturday and Sunday with the Detroit Red Wings.
