All the talk of his future is probably getting a little sick for Patrice Bergeron.
He means more than he'll ever know to the Bruins and the devoted fans of the city of Boston. As we all know, the captain's contract is officially up with the team on July 1st (first day of free agency). Bergeron refused to sign an extension during the season because he wanted to see how he felt this summer. Coming up on his 37th birthday on July 24th, he knows he's not getting any younger, and he has young kids and a family to worry about first and foremost.
Today at the Boston Bruins' "breakup day" to end the season, Bergeron was made available to the media and gave a little clarity on his future plans:
When asked if he could see himself playing anywhere else, Bergeron kept his answer pretty simple."
"No. I've been here for my whole career. Obviously, it's a special place for me. It's not on my mind right now. I just need to take time and regroup. I don't know, to be honest with you. I think it's just more time...I'm gonna need some time to think about a lot of things and come up with the best decision for myself and my family."
Patrice Bergeron has a huge decision to make concerning not only his future with the team but his future in the NHL. As he's stated before, it's clear that if he plays in the NHL next season, it will be with the Boston Bruins. The only worry for B's fans is if Bergeron decides to hang them up. Of course, we'll respect any decision he makes, but it will be terrible to see another Bruin icon end his career.
