A life-threatening scene surfaced from a recent Providence Bruins as a player to a skate to the neck and cut his throat.

New York Rangers affiliate team in the American Hockey League, the Hartford Wolf Pack was involved in a scary accident when their captain Casey Fitzgerald suffered a scary cut to his neck while facing off against the Boston Bruins.
This morning, some new details were released on the bloodcurdling scene that happened to Casey Fitzgeralds back in December 28th of 2024 during a game that saw the Wolf Pack face off against the Providence Bruins.
According to Kristen Shilton of ESPN, Casey was tied up in the corner before falling down to the ice, he would remain on the ice for another 15 seconds after the cut originally happened, and was repeatedly gesturing to his neck.

Casey Nearly Lost His Life

A few minutes later, a Providence Bruins player who was not named, broke some terrible news to Fitzgerald when he told him that his neck was cut and he was bleeding, after the referee told him he wasn't.
He waited until then to ask a referee, "Am I cut?" And the ref, who couldn't see underneath Casey's neck guard, said no. It wasn't until Casey was skating to the bench that a Providence player told him, "Dude, your f---ing neck is cut."

This accident could have been 10x worse, as it was revealed that the cut was inches away from his jugular, which could have easily taken his life from him.
Following the tragedy, Casey's father, Tom Fitzgerald who is the General Manager of the New Jersey Devils revealed that his son was wearing a cut-resistant neck guard. The neck guards have been mandated in the American Hockey League, and there has been talks that the NHL may make in mandatory as well.
Since the accident took place, Casey has offiically return to the Hartford Wolf Pack in the American Hockey League. To see the cut and stitches that Casey Fitzgerald suffered you can click this link.
