As an emergency, Gary Bettman and the NHL was forced to call an emergency meeting with the league today.
While most meetings are planned well in advance, Michael Russo of The Athletic has reported that the NHL has scheduled the meeting to address a serious matter that could effect several teams.
''Told the NHL is holding a Board of Governors call in 15 mins''
It reportedly due to the fact of Bally Sports and their parent company heading towards bankruptcy. (See below)
This new development could result in major problems for the following teams, who use Bally Sports to broadcast games:
- Los Angeles
- Anaheim
- Arizona
- Dallas
- St. Louis
- Minnesota
- Detroit
- Columbus
- Nashville
- Carolina
- Tampa Bay
- Florida
If these teams are unable to salvage some deals, the NHL salary cap will not see a raise and could adversely impact the league for years to come.
