Evan Rodrigues had a career best 19 goals and 43 points for the Pittsburgh Penguins last season.
Because of his breakout, the 29-year-old entered free agency ready for a big pay raise.
Unfortunately, Rodrigues and his agent didn't play the market right and it definitely cost them.
According to NHL insider Frank Seravelli, the forward received an offer early on, but his then agent convinced him to pass on the offer.
''Frank Seravalli on Sportsnet 960 said that Rodrigues was offered a 3-year, $10.5M contract at the beginning of free agency that he passed on, which led to changing his agent.''
Rodrigues decided to fire his agent and after switching representatives he agreed to a one- year, $2 million deal with the Colorado Avalanche.
Not accepting the original deal cost him $8.5 million in total and $1.5 million per season.
