Earlier today, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Nicolas Roy was going to have a hearing for his dirty cross-check to Trent Frederic's face. Now his suspension fate has been revealed by the NHL DoPS.
During the second game of the series between the Edmonton Oilers and the Vegas Golden Knights there was some drama. Both teams were playing a physical style of hockey, and each ended up losing a key player during the game.
The Vegas Golden Knights ended up losing one of their most important defenseman in Brayden McNabb. He ended up taking a dangerous hit from Oilers forward Viktor Arvidsson in overtime.
The Oilers also had a scare when Trent Frederic ended up going down from a scary cross-check to the face from Nicolas Roy.
Frederic got hit directly in the face from Roy's stick and immediately dropped down to the ice. Frederic did end up returning back to the game during overtime, and Roy got a 5-minute major and was also ejected from the game.
The NHL Department of Player Safety has made an official ruling on the play, and instead of suspending Roy, they have fined him $7,812.50 which is the maximum allowed under the current CBA for his cross-check on former Boston Bruin Trent Frederic.
Vegas' Nicolas Roy has been fined $7,812.50, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for cross-checking Edmonton's Trent Frederic.
The Golden Knights are currently down 2-0 in the series, and losing Roy along with possibly losing McNabb, they aren't sitting in an ideal situation at the moment, and to make matters worse, the series is now shifting to Edmonton.
