Announcement: Three Boston Bruins players careers hit rock bottom following NHL free agency
A recent report has unveiled that three Boston Bruins players careers have hit rock bottom during this year's NHL free agency.
This year's NHL free agency, which began on July 1st, has certainly slowed down now that the league is one week into the frenzy.
Despite this being the case, there are still several unrestricted free agents (UFAs) left on the market, and shockingly enough, a few of them are former Boston Bruins players.
Jakub Lauko, Matt Grzelcyk, and Craig Smith are still yet to find new organizations following their departure from Boston
Lauko did not receive a qualifying offer from Boston prior to July 1st, which ultimately led this former Bruin to hit the market as a UFA.
At this point of free agency, Lauko has still been yet to be signed by a new organization.
However, there is a clear indication to expect that to change within the near future.
Due to the fact that teams seeking more energy and grit within their bottom-six will certainly be intrigued by Lauko, especially to a short-term deal.
As this 25-year old can most definitely offer that kind of gameplay.
Following Grzelcyk's first eight NHL seasons being within the Bruins lineup, his time in Boston ended when he signed a one-year deal with the
Pittsburgh Penguins during last year's offseason.
Now, following the completion of his last contract with the Penguins, Grzelcyk is one again a UFA, and arguably the top unsigned defenseman in the National Hockey League.
That being said, there is many reasons to believe this defenseman has many organizations interested, and similar to Lauko, it appears as though this UFA will be signed shortly.
Smith is yet another former Bruin who is still a UFA at this point of this year's offseason.
This 35-year old forward has become a journeyman ever since he was traded by the Bruins during the 2022/23 NHL season, as he has played for the Washington Capitals, Dallas Stars, Chicago Blackhawks, and Detroit Red Wings.
Despite Smith's middle-six forward days being over, he is still a skilled and driven bottom-six, as he offers solid defensive play.
Although fans can anticipate to see these three players acquired soon, there is no doubt that these former Bruins have seen better days.
